Another project from Two-Dimensional Design, also just came back into my possession after being on display. This was the first project we did without cutting and pasting pieces of paper. We were learning about rhythm in this unit and the project was to develop one or more simple shapes to repeat in a rhythmic pattern.

I took it a little literally and based it after a Junior Boys song I was stuck on at the time. A lot of my class mates created their own unique shapes and I tried to do the same at the beginning. However, after picking out a song to inspire the work and visualizing it in my head, I thought that simple shapes would be best.

We were supposed to use a black marker only. Many of the other students asked enough question and he said that if we had a grey marker we could use it. I didn't bother to tell him that I had 9 shades of grey markers . So I used that to my advantage to make the picture feel complete.

The squares were added on a whim and I am pretty happy with them. Their actually meant to 'keep time' in the piece like a metronome.

I wasn't as pleased with the negative white effect in the lower right hand corner. It was meant to give it more interest in that corner and without it, the shades of grey against black looked a bit muddy. I wish I would have had more time to maybe work it out better, but even that part seemed to be well received by the class and instructor.

Let me know what you think and thanks for looking!
